About Stephanie Holm

The Unofficial Version

Hi there! I'm Stephanie Holm, I'm a writer and illustrator - well technically my title is a 'Natural History Illustrator' ... which is a fancy way of saying I like to draw things from the natural world, including, you know, pyjama squid.

The Official Version

Dr Stephanie Holm is a writer and illustrator formerly based in the sunny city of Newcastle, NSW, Australia. In 2016-2017 she was the Children's Literature Fellow at the State Library of Victoria. She was also named Great Lakes' Artist of the Year for 2016. 

 

Stephanie studied Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle, Australia and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in 2018. As a natural history illustrator she has completed commissions for clients including Mosman Council; has had her works feature in several publications and exhibited in numerous galleries and venues including the South Australian Museum, Maitland Regional Gallery and Manning Regional Gallery.

As a writer Stephanie's short story 'Grey Gum' was published in the 2018 Newcastle Short Story Award Anthology, and won a Commended Prize. Her story 'Wake' was a finalist in the 2016 Newcastle Short Story Award and included in the anthology. Her story 'The Witness' won the 2015 Newcastle Herald Short Story Competition, and 'The Fires Following' was a finalist in the 2014 competition.

 

She is currently on drawing hiatus while writing her first children's middle grade novel ...  she wishes she could tell you more about it, but she also doesn't want to spoil the surprise. You'll just have to keep checking her Snippets blog for news!
